Mattei celebrates a centenary by encouraging industry to ‘Think Green’

August 28, 2019
Rotary vane air-compressor specialist Mattei is marking its 100th year by reaffirming its commitment to the development of ecologically and economically viable products, launching a new logo and strapline to celebrate.
Founder Enea Mattei established the company in 1919 following the First World War, in which his interest in compressors had been raised through a course with the Combat Engineers. In 1934, he created the first ever diesel compressor, and by 1940 his eponymous company, Ing. Enea Mattei, employed 180 staff.
In 1958, a few short years after Enea’s death, the company introduced the innovative rotary vane technology which remains its trademark.
After the company’s acquisition by OMIC in 1962, Giulio Contaldi took the reins, and under his leadership the potential of rotary vane technology was fully realised and launched to markets around the world. Today, his son, also Giulio Contaldi, celebrates the legacy of Mattei by investing in research which will further increase the efficiency of its compressors, and safeguard the planet.
Giulio comments: “The industrial sector accounts for more than 50 per cent of global electricity consumption (6673TWh), and of this, up to 20 per cent (1335TWh) is due to air compression and delivery to its final uses.
“We have enjoyed 100 years of innovation and success, but as we look to the next 100, protecting the health of our planet must also be key to the Mattei vision. We are dedicated to investing in the development of ever greener technologies, and to raising awareness of the impact which inefficient compressors could have on global carbon reduction targets. The ‘Think Green’ strapline and our celebratory logo have been designed to reflect that commitment, which will not only last throughout our centenary year but long into the future of Mattei.”
